Ce va-et-vient permanent, sur une distance de l\u2019ordre du milli\u00e8me de millim\u00e8tre, est appel\u00e9 oscillation. Il permet d\u2019alimenter un circuit dont la charge est constante dans le temps. Il s\u2019agit de la vitesse \u00e0 laquelle les \u00e9lectrons effectuent un cycle oscillatoire. Elle est mesur\u00e9e en nombre de cycles par seconde.
